Aperto to Highlight WiMAX Products and Technology at Communicasia 2006

Announces Strategic Distribution Agreement with D-Link for Taiwan Aperto WiMAX Solution Being Aggressively Deployed Across Asia

SINGAPORE (CommunicAsia), (June 20, 2006) – Aperto Networks, developer of the world’s most advanced WiMAX base stations and subscriber units, showcases its PacketMAX™ product family at the CommunicAsia 2006 Exhibition and Conference in Singapore from June 20 – June 23, 2006.

The world’s first carrier grade WiMAX Forum Certified™ base station, Aperto’s PacketMAX 5000, is among the WiMAX products on display at Aperto’s booth in Hall 4.

Also at CommunicAsia, Aperto announces a strategic partnership with D-Link, a global leader in connectivity for small, medium and large enterprise business networking, to sell Aperto Networks’ PacketMAX™ solutions in the Taiwanese market. Aperto’s WiMAX solutions are well suited to address the broadband wireless access (BWA) requirements stemming from M-Taiwan, Taiwan’s extensive mobile internet and mobile services infrastructure development project.

Similarly, Aperto recently announced a strategic alliance with Allied Telesis to sell Aperto Networks’ PacketMAX™ solutions in the Japanese market.

The deployment of WiMAX networks across Asia is starting to ramp up. Among the Asian operators who are aggressively rolling out fixed WiMAX or fixed WiMAX-class networks are CSM of Indonesia, VSNL of India, SLT of Sri Lanka, and SUPERNET of Pakistan.

PT. Citra Sari Makmur (CSM), one of Indonesia’s largest telecommunications operators, announced in March that CSM was expanding its existing deployment of Aperto’s WiMAX-class multi-service broadband wireless systems to cover a wider area across Indonesia.

“CSM evaluated several different technologies and suppliers before selecting Aperto as our wireless partner,” said Agus Buntaran, CTO of CSM. “We feel privileged that CSM will be among the world’s first deployments of WiMAX Forum Certified™ equipment. The deployment of this cutting-edge technology is another “first” for CSM, and it is an appropriate addition to our growing list of achievements.”

The spread of WiMAX in Asia has not been limited to Indonesia. Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL), India’s leading telecommunications service provider recently completed the deployment of Aperto Network’s WiMAX-class PacketWave™ multi-service broadband wireless systems in over 65 cities across India. The deployment is part of an initial deployment phase with the goal of growing the network to cover over 200 cities within twelve months.

“VSNL is a strong believer in WiMAX technology. We have worked with Aperto on our existing wireless initiatives and are looking forward to extending our solutions with Aperto to include WiMAX” said Mr. Alin Jayant, senior vice president of implementation and planning for VSNL. “Aperto is certainly among the leaders in WiMAX and has strong networking functionalities and proven Quality of Service (QoS) features.”

Beyond India, Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), Sri Lanka’s premier telecommunications service provider, also recently announced that SLT has begun deploying and testing a WiMAX broadband wireless solution based on equipment provided by Aperto Networks.

“WiMAX has the potential to benefit Sri Lanka enormously,” said Shuhei Anan, CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom. “WiMAX is a high-speed, high-capacity, long-range wireless delivery system of all things digital – including data, voice, and video content. Our decision to partner Aperto Networks will greatly enhance our ability to offer a wide array of affordable broadband wireless services in Sri Lanka in the years to come.”

In nearby Pakistan, SUPERNET Limited, the largest Data Network Operator and Internet Service Provider in Pakistan, recently deployed Aperto’s WiMAX-class PacketWave solution in Karachi, and is in the process of deploying systems in Lahore and Islamabad as well.

“WiMAX technology and Aperto’s carrier grade WiMAX Forum Certified™ solutions are a perfect fit for the communications needs in various countries across Asia.” said Manish Gupta, vice president of marketing & alliances of Aperto Networks. “Asia is the fastest growing market for WiMAX and Aperto is the leading provider of WiMAX systems including base stations and subscriber units.”
