Aperto Demonstrates Live Mobile WiMAX Applications at WiMAX World

Demo Features Internet Browsing, Streaming Media and File Downloading From an 802.16e Compliant Subscriber Unit

WIMAX WORLD 2006, BOSTON, Mass. (October 11, 2006) – Aperto Networks, builder of the world’s most advanced WiMAX Forum Certified™ base stations and subscriber units, is showcasing its extended 802.16e-2005 compliant PacketMAX™ architecture with a live demonstration of Mobile WiMAX applications at the WiMAX World 2006 conference starting today in Boston.

The live showcase features PacketMAX technology within a variety of service scenarios including Internet browsing, streaming media and file downloading over an Aperto Networks’ PacketMAX™ platform. The showcase also demonstrates the ability of PacketMAX™ to successfully operate with an ASN gateway performing subscriber and service management functions needed for mobile WiMAX networks. The showcase is located at Aperto’s booth (#313) and is open to the public.

PacketMAX™ is Aperto’s industry-leading dual fixed and Mobile WiMAX solution architecture based on the IEEE 802.16-2004 fixed and IEEE 802.16e-2005 Mobile WiMAX standards. PacketMAX™ includes the PM5000, the industry’s highest density, highest capacity, and highest performing base station. The PM5000 was the first base station to be certified by the WiMAX Forum™. PacketMAX™ can host fixed and mobile WiMAX subscribers from the same base station. This feature gives operators a wide choice of deployment options and migration strategies, depending on their spectrum licenses and market requirements. PacketMAX™ also includes indoor and outdoor subscriber units for consumers, small businesses and large enterprises that can run the fixed or mobile standard depending on software load.

“Aperto has taken a total solution approach to mobile WiMAX,” said Elvis Tucker, director of solutions and alliances, for Aperto Networks. “The PM5000 “e” technology we are featuring in the demonstration gives our customers the freedom to introduce the 802.16e standard in their fixed networks initially and gracefully migrate to mobile WiMAX when they are ready. Our customers will need advanced subscriber and service management functions well before WiMAX networks are fully mobile. PacketMAX’s rich IP feature set enable it to work with ASN gateway products over standard interfaces to manage dynamic QoS and service updates as a user’s profile changes.”

PacketMAX Base Stations: The PacketMAX 5000 base station, the cornerstone of the PacketMAX architecture, is the industry’s highest density, highest capacity, and highest performing base station. By inserting the “e” blade, operators have the flexibility to deploy fixed and mobile subscribe

rs from a single base station – or operate PacketMAX 5000 as a stand alone fixed or stand alone mobile base station.   PacketMAX Subscriber Units: PacketMAX includes both outdoor and indoor subscriber units and is designed for consumer, small business and large enterprise users. Different CPE options have been designed with dual ‘d’ and ‘e’ modes; to interoperate with ‘d’ and ‘e’ base stations; and to perform optimally in ‘d’ mode and in ‘e’ mode.

PacketMAX Element Management System: Aperto’s WaveCenter™ EMS Pro incorporates support for both fixed and mobile implementations of the PacketMAX architecture on the same platform, thus giving operators a cost effective solution for operating a hybrid network or selecting one of the two options.

More information on Aperto’s mobile WiMAX solutions and its fixed-to-mobile migration strategies for WiMAX operators will be available today, Wednesday, October 12, at the WiMAX Solutions Theater, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and at the City View Ballroom II from 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.
