SLT to Use Aperto’s WiMAX Solution to Network the South Asian Games
Aperto’s PacketMAX WiMAX Forum Certified Gear to Deliver Communications for Historic South Asian Games
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, (August 17, 2006) – Aperto Networks, builder of the world’s most advanced WiMAX base stations and subscriber units, announced today that Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) will be using Aperto’s WiMAX systems to network the upcoming 10th Annual South Asian Games in Sri Lanka.
Since its decision to deploy Aperto’s PacketMAX™ system in March, SLT has been trialing WiMAX base stations and outdoor CPE for performance, reliability and throughput. In January, Aperto became the first systems vendor to offer certified WiMAX products for carriers. PacketMAX is suitable for today’s fixed WiMAX services, as well as upcoming nomadic, portable and mobile services.
“Aperto has proven its ability to deliver complete WiMAX solutions capable of providing the reliable performance we need to operate in such a high profile event as the South Asian Games,” said Mr. Tilak De Silva, an executive from SLT. “We are very pleased with the PacketMAX test results. Our decision to deploy Aperto WiMAX solutions for the South Asian Games has been well validated.”
During the 10th Annual South Asian Games, SLT’s Aperto powered wireless network will carry audio and video feeds from numerous venues throughout Sri Lanka, and will provide internet access, scores and event updates in real time. Given that many of the event venues are at remote sites, and that some are temporarily constructed, WiMAX offers the perfect solution for a rapidly deployable, low cost service.
“We are very excited to extend our relationship with SLT, a premiere telecommunications operator and a very important customer and partner to Aperto”, said Manish Gupta, vice president marketing and alliances, Aperto Networks. “We have focused our products on the needs of carriers from the very beginning. SLT’s decision to deploy Aperto at the South Asian Games is a strong validation that Aperto’s WiMAX solutions can be counted on to deliver high performance in critical applications.”
