WiChorus and Aperto Announce Successful Completion of Interoperability Testing between WiChorus' Intelligent ASN Gateway and Aperto's PacketMAX Base Station Based on WiMAX Forum's NWG 1.0 R6 Specifications

WiChorus' One Open WiMAX and Aperto's WiSE Partner Initiatives Leverage Testing to Accelerate Multi-Vendor Interoperability and Promote Open Standards Across Mobile WiMAX Ecosystem

CHICAGO, IL (September 25, 2007) – WiChorus, the developer of the industry's most scalable, Intelligent Access Services Network (ASN) gateway, and Aperto® Networks, builder of advanced WiMAX base stations for fixed and mobile operators, today announced the companies have successfully completed interoperability testing (IOT) between WiChorus' Intelligent ASN gateway and Aperto's PacketMAX™ 5000 base station. WiChorus and Aperto demonstrated R6 interoperability based on the WiMAX Forum's NWG 1.0.0 specification, which serves to eliminate proprietary systems, and helps create an open, flexible ecosystem of best-of-breed products for fixed and mobile WiMAX operators.

[Editor's note: WiChorus and Aperto will be demonstrating their joint solutions in booth #727 at the WiMAX World Conference in Chicago, IL, September 25-27, 2007.]   "WiChorus is a valuable partner in our WiMAX Solutions Ecosystem (WiSE™) program," said Manish Gupta, Vice President of Marketing & Alliances at Aperto and WiMAX Forum board member. "Their participation in WiSE underscores how easily service providers can deploy complete, fully interoperable WiMAX solutions without being locked into any one manufacturer or supplier."   "To date, interoperability efforts have been focused on the air interfaces rather than the core infrastructure, which is critical to deploy profitable end-to-end networks," said Rehan Jalil, president and CEO of WiChorus. "Now, the availability of infrastructure equipment with open interfaces makes WiMAX truly disruptive, by delivering on the promise of an open, modular and horizontally segmented model where service providers have the confidence to combine best-of-breed base stations, Intelligent ASN gateways, and CSN components."   The One Open WiMAX initiative is accelerating the availability of WiMAX Forum compliant infrastructure equipment; ensuring service providers have the option to combine best-of-breed equipment to build their networks. The goal of this vendor-neutral initiative is to ensure fully open WiMAX standards, including the adoption of a single open R6 interface, and demonstrate multi-vendor interoperability across the entire mobile ecosystem. To achieve this, WiChorus has invested significant R&D resources in providing test and simulation tools, an advanced test lab facility, and software components to assist vendors in delivering fully interoperable, open WiMAX solutions.   WiSE is Aperto's comprehensive partnering program, the first and largest WiMAX ecosystem in the industry. It delivers an entire range of services and solutions for fixed and mobile WiMAX operators. WiSE is designed to guarantee robust, reliable, and interoperable end-to-end WiMAX solutions.   PacketMAX 5000, Aperto's lead product, holds the distinction of being the highest density carrier-grade base station in the industry and the first base station to become WiMAX Forum® Certified. It operates in licensed and license-exempt bands and can host both 802.16-2004 and 802.16e-2005 subscribers within a single chassis—giving providers a versatile platform from which to launch fixed, nomadic, portable and fully mobile services.
