TowerStream Selects and Deploys Aperto Networks'
PacketWave Systems throughout Northeast US Markets
Delivering broadband wireless services including T-1 replacement,
and 802.11 Wireless LAN Hot Spot backhaul applications
Milpitas, Calif. and Newport, R.I. May 13, 2002 - Aperto
Networks, a leading provider of next generation point-to-multipoint
fixed broadband wireless access (F-BWA) systems, today announces
that it has been selected to provide last-mile access solutions
for TowerStream, the leading fixed wireless broadband provider in
the Northeast United States.
Aperto's flagship system, PacketWave, is being deployed in all
existing and new TowerStream POP and subscriber locations. The carrier,
in operation across the Boston metro area and in greater Rhode Island
since 2000, is expanding its service territory in numerous Northeastern
US metropolitan areas. TowerStream's portfolio of applications for
demanding small and medium-sized business users includes broadband
wireless connectivity at T-1 or greater speeds for Internet access
and LAN interconnection, as well as wireless route diversity for
disaster recovery.
"We've been highly successful as a top-tier alternative to
wireline WAN services for enterprise connectivity," stated
Philip Urso, CEO of TowerStream. "Our value proposition is
extremely attractive: equivalent or superior connectivity at half
the price of telco T-1, flexible and highly reliable Class of Service
options, and service installs within 14 days of order. No one else
in our markets can serve enterprise users better, faster, more cost-effectively
or flexibly than we can. As a result, we're adding business subscribers
as fast as we can. Aperto's capabilities and support fit hand-in-glove
with our business model and growth plans."
"TowerStream is an outstanding example of the new and successful
next-generation carrier," stated Reza Ahy, CEO and Chairman
of Aperto Networks. "The company is very focused on initially
serving business subscribers with tiered services, they are fast-moving
and agile, but very selective in choosing the best opportunities
for market success."
"Aperto's PacketWave system is a great fit for our demanding
customers and the aggressive SLAs (service level agreements) we
offer them," added Jeff Thompson, TowerStream's Chief Technical
Officer. "In fact, Aperto is the only second-generation F-BWA
vendor who fully met our requirements. No one else was even close.
Because of innovations like ServiceQ and OptimaLink,
we are now able to implement new services such as Voice over IP
and 802.11 hot spot backhaul, to meet expressed user needs."
"TowerStream really did its homework in thoroughly evaluating
requirements and capabilities," confirmed Alan Menezes, VP
of marketing for Aperto Networks. "They are defining the sweet
spot of second-generation wireless service providers, paying close
attention to real user demand, delivering dependable and scalable
technologies, and sustainable operation. They have taken a leadership
role and are making a strong positive impact in the current market
environment."
TowerStream evaluated six other FBWA equipment providers before
selecting Aperto Networks to provide its broadband service delivery
access solution. Its contract with Aperto Networks represents a
multi-million dollar commitment for CY 2002.
